Colonial History: Throughout history, Greece established about 500 colonies with at lease 60,000 Greek colonists. Alexander the Great of Macedonia conquered Greece, but then adopted the culture and spread it throughout the Mediterranean areas. Learn more about it here. Both France and Spain established colonies on the coasts of Greece in the 7th century BC. Later, it was under the control of the Roman empire, before it fell. In the 15th century it was under Ottoman rule, until that empire fell.
Major Attractions: Meteora (Meteora, Greece) - Meteora is a collection of six monasteries spectacular situated on top of several rock pillars. It was founded in the 14th century. People had trouble getting to the monasteries. It took them a while to figure out different ways to get there.
