Language
The official language of Montenegro is Montenegrin, but there is a lot of debate over this. Some believe that Bosnian, Serbian, and even Croatian should also be listed as official languages as all four languages are very similar and many speak the other three as well as the official language.
Colonial History: Rome originally colonized the country in the area it is now in 100 AD. It was called Dalmatia. Then, in 626, the Slavs established their colonies, moving in from the South. From the 15th through 16th centuries, the Ottoman empire had complete control over the country. Eventually, they freed themselves from the empire through a revolt in the early 1900s, only to become a part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslav.
