Colonial History: Spain may have had the largest influence of any country on the Americas, with the majority of the countries speaking Spanish as their official language. The most famous discovery of the "New World" was through Spain. "Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue, in 1492." They are also the land of "conquistadors" and these men were ruthless. Hernan Cortez is infamous for the genocide of the Aztecs in order to conquer the land now known as Mexico. Francisco Pizzaro did the same to the Incas when conquering the west coast of South America and Pedro de Alvarado repeated the process to the Mayas in Central America. In the 16th century, Miguel López de Legazpi colonized the first settlement in the Philippines, after Magellan, who was sailing for Spain, was the first to reach it. During that time, the Spaniards also started sending missions to the Americas in order to start Catholic reformation.
Major Attractions: La Concha (San Sebastian, Spain) - La concha is known as one of the best beaches in Europe, let alone Spain. The beach is good for surfing and finding good restaurants to eat at. You can also enjoy the beautiful views it has to offer.
