Physical Map
Southern Europe’s migration, human settlement, and human interaction with the environment has been greatly impacted by physical features of the sub-region. The Mediterranean Sea has directly lead to the creation of Greek mythology. The Balkan, Italian, and Iberian Peninsula’s are all on the Mediterranean Sea. Along the coast line of all of those peninsulas is very highly concentrated amounts of human settlement. In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted and left the city of Pompeii covered in ash clouds. The people in the city were killed almost instantly because of the inhalation of the ash. After this event the people of Pompeii immigrated to other cities of Italy to ensure that no other eruption of the size could never occur again.
